Casting Considerations
I looked at a number of potential candidates to become
actors in my film project. I had
shortlist 6 potential actors to play the three main roles of Luke, James and
John the other Actors who didn’t get the three main roles will be used as
soldiers in the scene and one of them will become the mysterious figure.
Character considered to Play: Luke
Reason: I believe he
could play the role of Luke as he has the looks of a young person and the
talent to play a vulnerable, weak character.
However the only downside is he looks too weak to play the
part as the character of James is in a middle of a warzone so needs to look
stronger in presence, so the audience can pick up the messages I am trying to
put across in the scene. I therefore
decided not to give him the role.
Reason: I believe he could play the role of James as he has
the look of a big brother and also a stronger psyche, which makes look like he
can handle himself in a warzone.
However the problems with Joe he lives too far away from the
other actors and also the location I had chosen for the film to take
place. I therefore decided not to give
him the role of James.
Character considered to Play: John
Reason: I believe he could play the role of John as he
brings the sense of seriousness and leadership about him and he has had
experience in acting.
However similar to Sam parker he doesn’t have the psyche
that you would expect of a solider in war. I therefore decided not to give him
the role of John but gave him the role of the mysterious figure as I thought his experience will help
other actors perform better.
Character considered to Play: John
Reason: I believe he
could play the role of John as he brings the sense of seriousness and
leadership similar to Harry but unlike Harry he has the psyche that you would
expect of a solider in war.
The only problem was that he had no previous acting
experience to play such a big role. However I had faith he could deliver the
role perfectly. Therefore I decided to
give him the role.
Character considered to Play: Luke
Reason: I believe he could play the role of Luke as he has
the looks of young person however unlike Sam he looks like he can handle
himself in a fight but still with a feel of weakness and vulnerability. He also had previous acting experience as he
has an A level in drama and being involved in a number of productions with
other companies.
I therefore gave him the role of Luke.
Reason: I believe he could play the role of James as he has
the presence of a big brother and also a strong will. He also has the psyche so
he looks like he is able to fight in a war. Another positive is he has work
with Sean in other productions so the two actors have a chemistry which is
crucial as they are playing brothers. I want the audience to see the connection
and how James looks out and cares for his brother.
I therefore gave him the role of James.

Debris at location

Make sure area of the location is empty of debris that
will cause harm or injury to actors or crew

People interfering with the production
|
Low
|
Make sure location and time is right where there are
hardly any public around so it doesn’t interfere with filming. i.e. cause
actors to loose contraction.
|
There was no issue
as the locations were the public didn’t go and we got the production done
early while no one was really awake.

Weather
|
Medium
|
Make sure the weather condition is acceptable for
production.
Take umbrella in case of rain so characters clothing
doesn’t get wet.
|
The only issue with the weather was that before production
the weather was heavy rain. It stopped before production got called off and
thanks to the rain , it created a dull environment which fitted perfectly to
the scene.

Recce Report
Recce Report
In our recce reports we look to assess the locations and see whether they are viable, containing multiple situations which we should be aware of. The main concern being safety is paramount and so we need to ensure the locations are safe to work and suitable for the use of filming.
Elements we look for are
- Parking or equipment access
- Electrical outlets/power supplies
- Available lighting sources ( This can be either natural light e.g from the sun, lamppost or Artificial light from torches and lighting rigs.
- Permission to film on site.
- The ability in making a intended atmosphere made by the location
- Enough room for shooting to take place .
Woods scene
For this particular scene we are looking at performing it in a natural woodland. This is easy to find as around the area there are plenty of parks which are easy for the cast and crew to get to. I have decided for the film to happen during day time so the sun should provide the natural light however depending on the weather the date of filming could change.
The woods would create the atmosphere i need as it will provide the feel of secrecy which is crucial in this scene with the characters involved.
Positive
- Natural lighting
- Same type of location as it said in the script.
- Easy for the actors to get to location
Negative
- Weather can't be controlled for filming
- People walking past disrupting filming

Location options for shooting
Option one: Wooded/ tree area on Eaton road.
Advantages:
Close enough for actors to reach.Trees are dense enough to provide the nature feel even though its next to houses.
Disadvantages:
Noise could be a distraction for the actors however as i am doing still pictures it shouldn't be much of a problem.
Option two: Crotexth park
Advantages: Close enough for actors to reach
Trees are dense enough to provide more of a perfect setting as there is no houses or urban culture near the location.
Provides an aura of the English countryside without even being near it.
Disadvantages
Weather is uncontrollable so i will have to trust in the weather reports to pick a specific day to use.
